How to Optimize Your CV for Workday and SAP SuccessFactors in the UAE and GCC

Workday and SAP SuccessFactors both read your CV into application fields, and employers configure them differently. Here is what each vendor's own documentation says, and a GCC-specific checklist built on it.

2 November 2026

Advice on how to optimize a CV for Workday or SAP SuccessFactors usually reads as if each platform had a fixed rulebook. The vendors' own documentation says something more modest. Both platforms read a CV into application fields, the result depends on the file and on how the employer has set the system up, and neither documents a perfect read. That is useful, because it points to what you can control.

This guide sticks to what the vendors publish, adds the parts that matter for GCC applications, and ends with a checklist you can use before you upload. It does not claim to know which Gulf employers use which system, because that is not public in any reliable way.

What the Vendors Document

Both platforms use resume parsing to fill in parts of the application so candidates do not retype everything. What each vendor says about its limits, as of November 2026:

TopicWorkdaySAP SuccessFactors
What parsing doesPopulates application fields from a resumeFills standard fields in the Candidate Profile
Documented limitsResults can vary based on resume format and order of words. Does not auto-fill fields the employer hides, or the Languages and Skills fieldsDoes not fill custom fields. Dates in an invalid format can trigger an "Invalid date" error. Text that exceeds a field's configured length can trigger a validation error
File guidanceFor best results, use resumes without images or image-based stylesRecruiting accepts Word (.doc, .docx), PDF, HTML, image and plain text attachments (this covers attachments in general, not parsing)
Employer controlEmployers can configure application templates to hide resume parsing for external candidatesEmployers decide which fields are standard or custom, and set field length limits

Two things stand out. First, the employer's configuration matters as much as your file, so the same CV can behave differently at two companies on the same platform. Second, neither vendor describes parsing as a pass-or-fail test. It fills in a form. People still make the hiring decision, which is why a parsed CV also has to read well to a recruiter (see ATS-optimized doesn't always mean recruiter-ready).

A Checklist for Workday and SuccessFactors Applications

  1. Treat the autofilled form as a draft. After you upload, read every field. Check your name, job titles, employers and dates, and correct anything that landed in the wrong place. Both vendors say results vary, so this step does more than any formatting tweak.

  2. Enter skills and languages by hand. Workday's documentation says it does not auto-fill Languages and Skills. In the Gulf, Arabic and English levels often matter to the reader, so do not assume they were captured. For what belongs in the skills list itself, see how to write the skills section for a GCC resume.

  3. Use one date format throughout. SAP documents an "Invalid date" error when a resume's dates are not in a valid format. Month and year, written the same way for every role (for example "Mar 2022 to Jun 2025"), is the simplest format for a parser to read.

  4. Keep headings standard and entries short. Parsers fill standard fields, and SAP documents errors when text is longer than an employer's configured field length. Use headings like Work Experience, Education and Skills. Keep job titles and employer names to the title and name, with the detail in the bullets below.

  5. Choose a single-column, text-based file. Neither vendor publishes a column rule, but Workday says word order affects results, and a single column keeps the reading order simple. A PDF exported from a document editor or a proper resume tool keeps real text. For the reasons behind this, see how ATS software reads your resume and GCC CV structure for ATS.

  6. Decide on the photo by employer. Workday's guidance is to avoid images. In the GCC, a photo is common practice for many government and local employers and increasingly optional for multinationals. Keep two versions and send the photo-free one through a global careers portal. The full breakdown is in should you include a photo on your GCC resume.

  7. Answer the form's own questions directly. Nationality, visa status and work authorisation appear in a GCC CV header, but application forms usually ask for them as separate questions. Answer those fields on the form instead of relying on your header. See what to put for nationality, location and visa on a GCC CV.

  8. Match the posting's wording where it is true. Parsing only gets your information into the form. Keyword alignment with the job description is a separate step, covered in ATS keywords for GCC resumes.

How to Tell Which System an Employer Uses

You do not need to know, because the checklist above works on either. If you are curious, the address of the application page often gives it away. Workday career sites commonly sit on a myworkdayjobs.com address, and SuccessFactors career sites commonly sit on an SAP address such as successfactors.com, successfactors.eu or sapsf.com, or hr.cloud.sap for employers hosted in SAP's Saudi data center. Employers can also use their own domain, so treat the address as a clue, not proof.

Checking Your CV Before You Apply

Resumify's free ATS Checker scores your existing CV on content and readability, and compares it with a job posting when you paste one in. It checks things like whether your contact details can be found, whether sections use standard headings, whether work dates are readable and how well your CV covers the posting's requirements. It does not reproduce Workday's or SuccessFactors' parsing, and no score can tell you exactly how a specific employer's system will read your file. Use it to catch the basics, then check the autofilled form yourself once you are in the application.

Resumify builds a GCC-formatted resume on a single-column, text-based layout with an optional tailored cover letter, for $2.99 once, no subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I optimize a CV for Workday or SAP SuccessFactors in the UAE?

Build for clean reading rather than for one platform. Use a single-column, text-based file, standard section headings, short job titles and consistent Month YYYY dates. Then treat the autofilled application form as a draft: check every field after you upload, and re-enter skills and languages yourself, because Workday's documentation says parsing does not auto-fill those two fields.

Does Workday reject a CV that is not formatted correctly?

The Workday documentation we reviewed describes resume parsing as populating application fields, and says results can vary based on resume format and order of words. It does not describe parsing as a rejection step. A poorly formatted CV can still arrive with scrambled or missing fields, which makes it harder for a recruiter to read, so the formatting is worth getting right.

Should I use a one-column or two-column CV for Workday or SuccessFactors?

The vendor documentation we reviewed does not give a column rule. Workday does say parsing results can vary with resume format and order of words, and a single-column layout keeps the reading order simple. Two-column layouts can cause parsing issues, so a single column is the safer choice when you do not know how the employer has configured their system.

Do Workday and SuccessFactors fill in my skills and languages automatically?

Not reliably. Workday's documentation says it does not auto-fill the Languages and Skills fields. SAP's documentation says resume parsing fills standard Candidate Profile fields and does not fill custom fields, which employers can add. Check these sections on the application form and complete them by hand.

Should I include a photo on my CV when applying through Workday?

Workday's documentation says that for best results you should use resumes without images or image-based styles. A photo is common practice for many government and local employers in the GCC, so it depends on who you are applying to. Keeping two versions of your CV, one with a photo and one without, avoids guessing wrong in either direction.

How can I tell whether an employer uses Workday or SuccessFactors?

The web address of the application page often gives it away. Employers can also use their own domain, so a clean address is not proof either way, and you do not need to know the platform to apply well.
